Our design hero Jack has been particularly excited over the last few months. Other than waiting with fevered anticipation for the new look Youngin Europe, Jack has been busy hatching another devious plan. This saturday... The Bunker begins. Here's the science bit:
"Based in a Hyde Park basement in Leeds, The Bunker Gallery opens its hatch on June 06 ready to host a variety of Art & Design Exhibitions, including mediums such as Graphics, Film, Type and Illustration amongst others. With a wide range of input from local artist and students The Bunker is set to become a diverse space full of creativity.
In addition to its obvious function as a gallery space we also hope to see the people of Leeds pushing the space to be used as a venue for discussions, lectures and workshops though we feel we cannot be the sole facilitator of these more optimistic avenues. The onus is with you, the creative people of Leeds to create this diversity with a helping hand from us. We will listen to your suggestions and monitor the demand for exhibition themes and subjects, we will adhere to provide."
To unveil The Bunker there will be opening party on Saturday 3rd June. The theme of the exhibition will be based around using surrounding space for purposes of rejuvenation, documentation and exploration. On display will be the work of Architect Alex Smith, whose latest design focuses on negative space within the city, looking at how architecture can be used to unlock potential, and also two Nominee projects for the 2006 D&AD student awards.
The Bunker will open officially on the Saturday night at 7pm. There will be some drinks and refreshments available, but feel free to bring your own. There will also be a store run by Interlude 22 selling prints, photos and anything art related. On Sunday the gallery will be open as usual from 12-5. See you there.
